EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic treatment that helps you reprocess adverse or traumatic life experiences. Events like the sudden death of a loved one or infidelity by a spouse can activate a trauma response that, without resolution, can keep you in a survival state and interfere with your day to day life.

The process of EMDR requires revisiting the adverse event and renegotiating your emotional response to it. To achieve positive outcomes, a client must first build their capacity for the stress that will initially arise in the session.

New clients who are interested in EMDR must first be assessed to determine if this treatment is appropriate, given your nervous system health.

For those who are not yet prepared to manage the stress that may arise during the reprocessing of an adverse or traumatic event, Somatic Experiencing® Therapy is the best place to start. Building somatic skills can increase your tolerance for EMDR, potentially making you a better candidate to move forward.
